The Dawn of the AI Era: How Microsoft is Transforming Technology with Copilot
This Revolutionary AI Will Change How You Work and Live Forever
We stand at the precipice of a monumental shift in technology, one that will fundamentally transform how we interact with and benefit from artificial intelligence. With recent advances in natural language processing, we can now converse with AI systems as if speaking to another person. The convergence of chat interfaces and large language models means we can simply ask for what we want in plain language, and the technology is now smart enough to understand, respond intelligently, and even take action.
At Microsoft, we envision this as having an AI-powered copilot to assist with any task or need. We have already begun building these copilots into our most popular products, revolutionizing the way people work and live. From making coding more efficient with GitHub to transforming productivity with Microsoft 365, redefining search with Bing and Edge, and providing contextual assistance across devices with Windows, our goal is to unify these capabilities into a seamless AI companion called Microsoft Copilot.
Introducing Microsoft Copilot - Your Everyday AI Sidekick
Today, we take the next leap forward by announcing Microsoft Copilot, an AI agent that will revolutionize your daily experience with technology. Copilot uniquely incorporates the wealth of knowledge on the web, your personal work data, and real-time context about what you're doing to provide better assistance - all while prioritizing privacy and security.
It will be a simple, seamless experience available across our products. In Windows 11, Microsoft 365, and Edge and Bing web browsers, Copilot will work as an app or conveniently reveal itself when needed with a right click. We will continuously expand Copilot's capabilities and integration to become an indispensable AI assistant for work, creativity, and daily life.
Copilot will begin rolling out in the coming months, starting with early previews integrated into Windows 11, Bing, Edge, and Microsoft 365. Read on for details of how Copilot will transform our most popular products and services.
Revolutionizing the Windows Experience
The next Windows 11 update, arriving on September 26, will be one of our most ambitious releases yet. With over 150 exciting new features, it brings Copilot's AI superpowers to enhance productivity across your apps and daily tasks.
Copilot integration in Windows 11 will provide AI-powered assistance for creating content in apps like Photos, Clipchamp, and Paint. For example, it can instantly expand a rough doodle into a polished picture or generate an entire video from a short clip. Copilot can also synthesize long text when you only need to provide a simple prompt.
Beyond creativity, Copilot helps simplify complex tasks and provides proactive recommendations tailored to how you work. It reduces time wasted on manual busywork so you can focus on meaningful work. And this is just the beginning - we will continue expanding Copilot's capabilities over time.
Reimagining Search with Bing and Edge
To provide more relevant, personalized search, Bing will incorporate the latest AI from OpenAI, including the new DALL-E 3 model for generating visual media. Based on your search history and context, Bing can now offer better answers instead of just links. It can also create new shopping experiences using AI, such as virtually trying on makeup or clothing.
Additionally, we are enhancing Bing Chat, our conversational AI assistant, with more mobile-friendly and visual capabilities. It can now have a back-and-forth discussion to refine questions and dig deeper on topics.
Edge will integrate Bing Chat and other Copilot features to transform browsing. Copilot can automatically generate summaries of web pages, compare prices while shopping, convert currencies, and more. It focuses on providing contextual assistance so you spend less time searching for information.
Revolutionizing Work with Microsoft 365
Finally, Microsoft 365 Copilot will help reinvent productivity and collaboration. Available starting November 1, 2023 for commercial customers, this AI assistant understands your company's data and conversations to provide recommendations in Office apps like Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
It can do things like suggest calendar availability for scheduling meetings or help write clear, concise emails by analyzing your writing style and the recipient. Copilot also seamlessly integrates with Microsoft Teams to assist with meetings, presentations, and tasks.
We're additionally launching Microsoft 365 Chat, a new AI chatbot to completely reimagine work. It can instantly find answers, summarize conversations and decisions from meetings, and even generate content like emails on your behalf. The possibilities to enhance productivity and collaboration are endless.
New Devices Optimized for the AI Era
To bring these groundbreaking AI experiences to life, we also introduced powerful new Surface devices available for pre-order today. The new Surface Pro 9, Surface Laptop 5, and Surface Studio 2+ are optimized to work seamlessly with all your favorite apps and with Copilot.
With the custom Microsoft SQ3 processor, 13.5 hours of battery life, and built-in HD camera, the Surface Pro 9 is perfect for working from anywhere. The Surface Laptop 5 now comes in two sizes with 12th Gen Intel Core processors to handle intensive creative work. And the Surface Studio 2+ is ideal for creative pros, with the most powerful CPU and GPU ever in a Surface device.
These new devices and experiences reflect our ambition to develop technology that adapts to people’s needs rather than the other way around. Microsoft Copilot represents a monumental leap towards making AI assistance indispensable across work, life, and everything in between. We can’t wait for you to experience the dawn of this exciting new era in AI.
